Defining questions

To optimize outcomes, we define questions to address key evidence components and optimize value. For instance:

  • Population/setting: Use representative settings and populations,

  • Interventions/comparators: Make randomized comparisons of interventions to each other and usual care,

  • Outcomes: Use outcomes that directly capture key process, behavioral, and clinical outcomes of systems, providers, and patients,

  • Timeframes: Use timeframes that align with the likely interval for key effects, and

  • Other: Examine key mediators and moderators that are likely to drive improvements in work.
